DIBS Book Donation Guidelines

DIBS helps schools ensure that every child, regardless of income, has two things:

1. Access to a great book to take home every night

2. A desire to read that book for fun as a path toward achieving third grade reading proficiency

If kids aren't reading at their grade level by the 3rd grade, they are 4x more likely to dropout of high school.
That's why DIBS focuses on the youngest students. DIBS also focuses on high poverty schools, because roughly 60% of the kids in poverty don't have a single age-appropriate book to read at home.

We know what you might be thinking: What about the school library?
It's a wonderful resource (we won't argue that!), but students go only once or twice a week. With DIBS, each student takes home on average 90 books throughout the school year.

DIBS Donation Must Haves:

DIBS wants to ensure that students get the most out of your donation, so you get the most out of your donation too!

1. Age Range:
Elementary

Ideally Pre-K through 3rd grade, but some higher-level chapter books are good.

2. Good Condition

No significant marks, tears, or water damage.

*Note: They must be age-appropriate
(no drug use, etc.)

3. Not Too Large

Will it fit or almost fit inside a folder?

4. Non-religious

Factual books are ok, but we aren't able to use children's bibles or similar works.
