David Orrick – Founder/Executive Director
David is an Omaha-native and a vocal advocate for Omaha’s public school teachers. He is adamant that schools must rethink the way they support teachers. This is based largely on his experience as a 1st grade Teach For America teacher where he served as a Founding Teacher of one of New Orleans’ highest-performing charter schools. David has experience helping launch or grow multiple other education reform organizations. Since 2014 he has worked with the consulting firm FourPoint Education Partners to help Omaha Public Schools usher in two of its highest profile strategic initiatives. David was a Finalist for Tulane’s 2010 Urban Innovation Challenge and was named a Distinguished Educator by Turning Technologies. He holds a BSD in Architecture from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Marie Kovar – School Support Director
Marie joined the DIBS Team in 2015 as a parent volunteer and is currently serving as the program’s School Support Director. In this position, she helps to oversee that our current five schools in Omaha have what they need everyday to be successful with the DIBS program. Marie, a former School Psychologist, is a native of Wisconsin and received her BA’s in Spanish and Psychology from St. Cloud State University and her Ed.S. from The University of South Dakota. She has a passion for serving others, developing community relations, improving the education of all children and for working with families, which aligns fantastically with what DIBS is doing each and every day in schools.
Rachel Robole – Program Improvement Associate
Rachel joined the DIBS team in June 2018 as a member of our AmeriCorps VISTA team. As a Program Improvement Associate, Rachel is helping identify areas of the current DIBS Program that can be strengthened for our parents and families. Rachel is a Wisconsin native, and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she earned her B.A. in Political Science, as well as a Certificate in Gender & Women’s Studies. Throughout her time at the University of Wisconsin, she developed a passion for providing resources to those who otherwise would not have access to said resources. Rachel is so excited to be able to live out her passion, by working for an organization that provides fun books to children.
Nicole Moorman – Program Improvement Associate
Nicole is from Maria Stein, Ohio and received an associates degree in radiologic sciences from Kettering College and has previously worked in a hospital as an x-ray tech before joining DIBS. She has traveled and volunteered in various places around the world and is excited to give back to the people in Omaha. She loves children and can’t wait to help make a difference in their education through DIBS.
Claire Wiley – Program Improvement Associate
Claire joined the DIBS team as Program Improvement Associate in June 2018 as a member of our AmeriCorps VISTA team. She believes that every child has the right to an excellent education, and is excited to help support schools and students with DIBS. Claire is from Denver, Colorado and earned a B.A. in Anthropology and Philosophy from Willamette University.
Elizabeth Florez – Resource Development Associate, Local
Liz joined the DIBS team in June 2018 as a member of our AmeriCorps VISTA team. As a Resource Development Associate Liz is helping secure grants for new projects to help DIBS expand, reach new students and analyze our effectiveness. Liz hails from Florida and studied Anthropology and Archaeology at the University of Central Florida. She has spent most of her life tucked away in libraries either volunteering, working or just enjoying the silent weight of words. Books open new worlds. Liz believes DIBS is helping to hand children the keys not only to their future success but to places full of untapped possibilities. She is thrilled to be working with DIBS to bring more books into childrens’ lives.
Chris Boehm – Resource Development Associate, National
Chris joined the DIBS team June 2018 as a AmeriCorps VISTA member. As the National Resource Developer, he’s currently working on DIBS’ expansion and implementation strategies as we work to serve students across the United States. Chris is a New Yorker by heart and is receiving his BS in Business Administration from American University.
Reina Cloyd – Marketing Associate
Reina joined the DIBS team in June of 2018 as a member of our AmeriCorps VISTA team. As a Marketing Associate, Reina is helping DIBS share our story through photos, videos, graphics, captions, and hashtags. Reina was born in Omaha and has travelled across the world, only to end up back here. She received her B.A. in Communications from the University of North Dakota and is continuing her education at the University of Nebraska Omaha studying Criminal Justice.
Laura Peckyno – Capacity Associate
Laura joined DIBS for Kids in June 2018. As the Organizational Capacity Associate for our AmeriCorps VISTA team, she supports the program’s volunteers, leads fundraising events, and focuses on capacity building. She is from Corvallis, Oregon and holds degrees in Literature and Publishing.
