DIBS for Kids, an Omaha-based literacy nonprofit, recently received a grant from Kum & Go. The $7,500 grant will support DIBS to expand its take-home book program to one of Omaha’s high-poverty public elementary schools during the fall of 2019.
Studies show school success starts with literacy proficiency from a young age, yet three out of five students growing up in poverty don’t have a single age-appropriate book in their homes. DIBS for Kids is changing the way schools deliver books into the hands of children who need them most.
DIBS for Kids is a literacy nonprofit founded by a former first grade teacher. We believe every student should have a great book to read at home every night, regardless of family income.
With our classroom-based libraries, we support teachers to send books home with students in a hands-off way. With our student-led technology, we aim to make reading the most fun thing our students do every evening.
